The English Stock Exchange celebrates the coronation of King Charles III

Today, Monday May 8, 2023 There is a public or bank holiday in Britain to celebrate the coronation King Charles III, despite the ceremony that took place last Saturday. This means the UK Stock Exchange will remain closed today. This news makes 2023 the year with the most public holidays in the UK, with a total of nine. The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently announced:

“The coronation of a new sovereign is a unique moment for our country. In recognition of this historic occasion, I am pleased to announce another UK bank holiday next year.”

The Prime Minister also called on people to take part in local and national events honoring King Charles III.

The coronation events of King Charles III

The official coronation of King Charles III took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May 2023, where it has been held for more than 900 years. During the ceremony, the Archbishop of Canterbury anointed, blessed and anointed the King while seated in King Edward’s chair.

The coronation tradition dates back to 973 AD when King Edgar was crowned at Bath Abbey. Each successive monarch had a bespoke coronation ceremony, tailored to the king’s or queen’s preferences.
